Hello Again [Jul. 20th, 2009|09:29 am]
Looking through past LJ entries, I enjoyed reading what I have wrote(written?), so I will write another entry:

Why does it take so long for me to eat bananas? Seriously it takes me almost 20 minutes to eat one banana. And then I think I'm full after eating it because it took so long, but then I get hungry again an hour later. At least they're tasty.

Well, it is now December. Temperatures are dropping, Christmas is coming, and the year is ending. So, if I want to say anything about this here 2008, now might be the time to start! To that end I'm haughtily listing chronologically all the books I've read this year.

TRUE CONFESSIONS [Sep. 14th, 2008|01:51 am]
[Current Mood |REMORSEFUL]
[Current Music |NOT "I KISSED A GIRL", THATS FOR DAMN SURE]

I'd like to let everyone know that Kate Perry's song "I Kissed A Girl" sucks. Most of you probably already knew this, but when I first heard it I thought, "this is not bad, this is an interesting song, i could stand to hear this song again" and I wanted to be the first to say that holy crap I was so wrong. That song is a terrible. I just clicked on a link to the music video and within seconds I was drawn into an existential crisis: WHAT AM I DOING? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?? WHAT IS THIS VAPID CACOPHONY IN MY EARS???

Conversely, this is awesome:

DJ SKILLZ [Nov. 18th, 2007|08:15 pm]
[Current Music |MY TENDERONI REMIX]

I made a remix of the Chromeo song "Tenderoni" and if everyone listens to it a lot, then Chromeo will have to listen to it, and if they say it is their favorite then I win a prize! IT IS A GOOD REMIX SO FEEL FREE TO LISTEN TO IT A LOT AND THEN MAKE YOUR FRIENDS LISTEN TO IT TOO.

And speaking of things that I have created, where once I was vanquished by Facial Hair February, I am now participating in No Shave November, and this time there will be no quitting! I think I've reached the point where it can't get any worse and so I can now make the slow transition from hobo-looking caterpillar to beautifully-bearded butterfly.

FROM ATLANTIS, TO INTERZONE (you start on the edge, and you end on the throne) [Jul. 14th, 2007|03:14 pm]
[Current Music |"Golden Skans" - Klaxons]

Wednesday night was the night of the much anticipated Klaxons concert with Remi and Chelsea, but disaster struck before I could even get out of Davis. I went to go workout in the afternoon, and when I got back home I realized I had locked myself out completely and Dan was out of town, so I was in trouble. I did have my car key though, so I ended up driving to Jesse's house where I showered and borrowed some clothes. Jesse is a dark souled man, so I left clad all in darkest black, emblemed with a bleeding battle helmet. TRULY A MAN READY TO ROCK!

So we all rushed out the door, got to San Francisco, and became more lost than I have ever been going to a show, which is actually saying quite a lot. Finally, after maybe an hour of wandering, parking in the most expensive lot in the city, and skipping our dinner, we made it into the Great American Music Hall where luckily, the Klaxons had not yet started playing. When they came on, I was able to push my way forward and the crowd went batshit crazy. Definitely one of the best crowds I've been in, they knew all the words and it was packed so tight that I had to tilt my head back just to get a breath of air that wasn't humidified with sweat. Everyone was going all out on each song and by the end of the night I was just trying to keep up with the blitzed pace.

Afterwards we finally got some dinner at a next door miracle Thai restaurant and then as we were walking past the venue to the car, who should we meet but Klaxons' vocals/keyboards/bass guitar man James Righton. PHOTO PROOF!:

And so, all in all a damn good time!

DAYS OF OUR LIVES (Tuesday Edition) [Jun. 30th, 2007|05:55 pm]
[Current Music |"Ice Cream" - New Young Pony Club]

I started writing this last Tuesday, but didn't finish it, but now I did, so here it is!

Today I woke up at the crack of 10:30am, but the first thing I did after getting out of bed was lay down on the couch. Scarlet came to visit me there and we hung out for a while. Finally I got up though and made my way to the computer. The thing with my laptop these days, is that the sound likes to die at random moments. What fixes it though is hammering it with your fist in just the right spot. This solution is probably not a good long term solution though, so sometimes I try to massage vigorously, but that never works as well the fisticuffs. Spent a lot of time on the internet going through this livejournal from one of the creators of a softer world. Dan got us some Vietnamese sandwiches for "breakfast" and the first bite I took into mine I unknowingly swalled a giant jalapeno and so I thought, "this tastes funny" and then, "that was spicy?" followed by, "OH MY GOD MY MOUTH IS ON FIRE!?! WHAT!!??!" and then I figured out what happened and drank a lot of milk.

So then I went to math class. The teacher for the class is a grad student, and I was thinking, this girl is pretty hot in the way that Princess Leia may be pretty hot in Star Wars (originally trilogy (of course!)), in the way that she faces a stiff field of competitors, by which I mean she looks better than Aunt Beru and Mon Mothma. SO, anyways, after class I went to the library where I did some homework and then read some Sin City they had there, and then left.

I've brought my road bike up from home and I took it out on a ride to the yolo county airport this evening. In August I'm going on a ride from Santa Cruz to LA with a few friends, so that should be a good time.

And well, I don't feel like telling a whole story about that Tuesday anymore so here's the rest: bbq'd chicken breasts, read tons of achewood, did not do homework, Dan played online poker all day.

THE END

near death experience [Jun. 10th, 2007|03:31 am]
Holy fucking shit, holy shit, fucking christ.  I was just this close to dying less than an hour ago.  I was driving home from seeing CSS with Remi in San Francisco and somewhere in the middle of fucking nowhere between Berkeley and Vacaville when this car a quarter mile ahead of us just turns around and starts heading the other way.  On the freeway.  Headed straight at us.  So a car is headed straight at me on the freeway, so I start to slow down, but at the same time I don't want to stop because what if it's trying to hit me on purpose?!?  So I was in the middle of the freeway and I start to steer towards the left and the other car swerves a little bit and then finally he veers to the right and we pass each other.  Another car turned around right after he did too and followed him, but that one was never coming at me.  This was maybe a half hour after we had passed an accident where an SUV was flipped over in the middle of the freeway too.  I have no idea what the hell those guys were doing, I'm just glad I wasn't murdered I guess.

In news not involving my death, the concert was incredible.  Definitely the best one I've been to all year, (better than Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens, Bjork, and Arcade Fire) the band and the crowd went total nuts.  Shoving dance, jumping shouting, surrounded and packed in tight, I never had time to think about it, I was in the moment the entire time.  And also this guy next to me was really checking me out, which I have to say was a first!  Oh the male gaze: it was nice to meet you, but lets not get the wrong idea!? (UNINTENTIONAL PUN LOL: GAZE -> GAYZ !!1!)

Anyways though, the point of this story is that I am still alive and tonight this pleases me more than usual.

Race Recap, Neighbors, SPARTAAA, Woyzeck [Mar. 11th, 2007|09:46 pm]
[Current Music |"Too Long" - Daft Punk]

So the race I had last Sunday was no problem. The other crews weren't that fast and we won by open water even though we didn't go that fast ourselves. Next up is spring break workouts and then the San Diego Crew Classic on March 31.

[Current Mood |glad]
[Current Music |"Pull Shapes" - The Pipettes]

Hopefully a quick entry before rowing practice today. I skipped math class this afternoon in favor of reading my favorite viking novel for perhaps the 19th time out in the sunshine. Kitten accompanied me outside and tried to eat those plants that were within her reach. It is such a great day for rowing and we'll be practicing our racing starts which is always good fun. Tomorrow is Alumni Day, so all the graduated rowers will come back and we'll have a fun row and then go eat a giant lunch and listen to the alumni tell wacky tales.

Then Sunday! RACE DAY! First race of the season and I should be racing in the varsity boat for the first time in my rowing career at Davis. Not only that, but one of the crews we're racing against is Santa Clara University which my old high school coach now coaches. So basically this is a must win race if I am to avoid his Polish taunts!

OK, NOW IT IS TIME TO GO TO PRACTICE!

Facial Hair Febuary, Tragically Cut Short + Rowing Data [Feb. 19th, 2007|08:53 pm]
[Current Music |"Province" - TV On The Radio]

Back in January, Max Scott suggested the self-explanatory concept of "Facial Hair Febuary", followed by "Moustache March" and my initial reaction was one of skepticism. When Febuary began though, my mind began to change

Arguments against shaving:
1) Easier than not shaving
2) Obtain large intimidating beard for spring racing season
3) Attend costume parties dressed as viking

And so, I stopped shaving. One week in everything was great. My rugged rough exterior was surely improving my quality of life. In week two however, doubt crept in.

Arguments against NOT shaving:
1) You look like a hobo
2) You can't take anyone seriously if they have a moustache
3) Nobody takes hobos very seriously either

And That, was That!

RUGGED MANLY EXTERIOR/HOBOFACE, GOODBYE.

In other news, I AM AN EXCELLENT ATHLETE!

I took a vO2 max test this Sunday which means I had to erg at continually increasing intensity, until failure, while wearing a mouthpiece connected to some sort of pressurized gas container, with my nose plugged. The results showed that I have the highest vO2 max per weight on the team at 61.9 ml/kg/min.

Other data for me(some of this is from the fall):
Highest breaths per minute: 76
Highest heart rate: 197 bpm
Body Mass Index: 22.6
Lean mass: 152.3 lb
Fat mass: 19.0 lb
Percent body fat: 11.1%
