Erich's Top 10 Musical Artists of 2007

(I'm in the middle)
1. Daft Punk
The reason why I'm doing a list of best artists of 2007 instead of best albums of 2007. To not put Daft Punk at the top of any list about music in 2007 for me would be unconscionable. Nearly all my favorite music this year drew comparisons to Daft Punk, but none could top them. Their concert was the highlight of my nearly 22 years of living, it was the greatest concert ever performed on the planet earth. Climbing from one peak of ecstasy to the next, thousands of people moving in dance/love/freakout awesomeness telling a story of human unity, all of which was done by robots.

2. Justice
Comparable to Daft Punk! Except at times catchier and at way many more times louder and more abrasive. Daft Punk are epic because of their legacy and live show, but Justice is epic because of their over-the-top beats. Sometimes they take the time to put a super-pop dance jam into their album too ("D.A.N.C.E.") and its my favorite song of the year with tons of cool remixes. That's how you make it right!

3. CSS
CSS's album came out in 2006 but I didnt get it until this year and wow it is good! This band is number one on my list of Artists That Support Hedonistic Tendencies and the second best live show I've ever been a part of (1st is Daft Punk, natch). Did I mention that I almost got killed driving home from the show or that I have 4 different remixes of "Let's Make Love and Listen To Death From Above" and that they're all frikking awesome!? (Number one on my list of Best Song Titles of 2007)

4.LCD Soundsystem
I like disco balls and so does LCD Soundsystem. I discovered their entire catalog this year and its just one long funky jam after another. "Beat Connection" may have made, "IT'S THE SADDEST NIGHT OUT IN THE U.S.A." my most frequently shouted lyric of 2007. Also, their album that they released this year, Sound Of Silver, had really strong cinematic emotional moments as well as being hip for dancing. Its on top of lots of Best Album of 2007 lists and I agree with these lists.

5. Klaxons
FROM ATLANTIS . . . TO IN-TER-ZONE! Blasting that song on the way to see their show this year was one of the best things that happened with me, in a car, in 2007. Klaxons are the best sci-fi rock band ever and I sweat so much at their show that it looks like I offended their singer. Also, there were a bajillion awesome remixes of their songs that came out this year.

<- HOT
6. The Pipettes
And now for something completely different, here is a modern 1960s girl group that took over my life through winter and spring this year. I probably listened to their album more than once a day for all of March. SO CATCHY, SO FUN! I probably overdid it. I haven't listened to any of their songs since July, but they deserve credit for making me shout, "YOUR KISSES ARE WASTED ON ME" while waving my finger out in public.

7. Patrick Wolf
Best Album Cover of 2007, hands down. Patrick is like 19 years old or something (hmm, actually he's 24) but he made this awesome FUTURE FAIRY TALE type album that is filled with Emotions! I listened to the song "The Magic Position" a ton this year and have yet to tire of it.

8. Simian Mobile Disco
Comparable to Daft Punk! If I were ever in charge of a crazy dance party and thought it was time to MAXIMUM CRAZY, you would hear something from their album Attack Decay Sustain Release (probably "Tits & Acid"). Plus, they produced Klaxons' album.

9. Bloc Party
News Flash: "Helicopter" is going to be on Guitar Hero 3! Why am I so excited about that when I could just try to play it on a real guitar instead!? ANYWAYS, I first listened to their Silent Alarm album in the middle of 2006, but I didn't really learn to love it until late this year. 2007 was a pretty fun year, just like most of these albums, but during times of emotional duress Silent Alarm got a lot of play. Bonus points awarded for having some awesome remixes of their songs too!

10. !!!
I was having a hard time choosing the last band to make it into the top 10 when I remembered I first heard not just one, but two !!! albums this year, so these guys are totally in. And how could I forget, they had the second most shouted lyric of 2007, "What did George Bush say when he met Tony Blair? SHIT! SCHEISSE! MERDE!"

BEST OF THE REST:
New Young Pony Club
Death From Above 1979
MSTRKRFT (comparable to Daft Punk!)
Digitalism (comparable to Daft Punk!)
Lucky Soul
Hot Chip

I approve of this list!!!! and I have to say, mine would probably look suspiciously similar, albeit a bit rearranged.. hahaha! In short you are a man of discerning tastes. I am proud to say I experienced all the aforementioned greattimes shows as well, and as for a certain CSS near-death experience, a Smiths song springs to mind:

And if a MANIAC GOING THE WRONG WAY ON THE FUCKING FREEWAY
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a PSYCHOTIC SOCIOPATH BLATANTLY IGNORING THE RULES OF SOCIETY
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine!

Morrissey's words, not mine.
